Leaf Peeping Allowed  19 miles C pace 4 terrain rating 10 AM start time  Start from Delaware & Lehigh Canal Towpath Trailhead, downtown Slatington, Penn.

Take a bike ride from Slatington to Jim Thorpe along the D & L Canal Towpath.  A new bridge opened up this summer that takes one to the outskirts of downtown Jim Thorpe.  We will cross the Lehigh twice in each direction.  Several wooden bridges over streams are too narrow to bike,  We will bike below the Appalachian Trail.  Lunch stop is at the Lehigh Outdoor Center.  There is a cafe there.  Bring extra money for shopping there or in Jim Thorpe.  If riders want more mileage, we can continue past Jim Thorpe or take in the Saucon Rail Trail south of Bethlehem or the Plainfield Township Rail Trail north of Bethlehem. (using the car to reach more trailheads)

Directions to Slatington:  Take I 78 west into Penn., about 4 miles past the Delaware River bridge, and exit onto Rt. 33 north.  Exit onto US 22 west, about 3 miles, in a construction zone making the exit easy to miss.  Take US 22 west to Penn. Rt. 145 north (about 6 miles).  Take the exit for Whitehall.  Go through a commercial area.  In about 12 miles there will be a left-hand turn for Slatington.  This is Main St. When you make the left turn from Rt. 145 North to Slatington, Main St.; it's 1 mile from that turn.  You will see a building that looks like it used to be a train station.  It has a slate roof.  It is a visitors' center.  There will be a gas station on the other side of the street.  Meet in the trailhead on the same side as the restored train station.
